As many of you know, I've worked in the local CNY music scene for a few years now. I'm asking you to read these words and to check out the links below, as not only does my career hang in the balance, but as does the entirety of music in the United States.

Our music industry is dying. Our local venues and promoters are dying. In other countries, these independent businesses have gotten a multitude of aid, but unfortunately the United States government has not done anything to help these establishments. The National Independent Venue Association is a non-profit organization formed to support these businesses, and to preserve the ecosystem of live music. They have projected that 90% of independent venues in the US will not survive without federal aid.
Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, independent concert venues and promoters are suffering. In the US alone,
- Live events employ over 12 million people.
- Live events contributes over $1 trillion annually to the US economy.
- 95% of live events have been cancelled due to COVID-19.
- 77% of people in the live events industry have lost 100% of their income.

You are bummed a concert is cancelled, but our lives and careers have been cancelled. I, personally, have lost over 40 shows in just 2020, not to mention 2021 losses. This does not just affect local bands, for many reasons. While it is obviously unsafe for shows to happen right now, when it is finally safe again, there will not be shows. If aid is not received, there will be no venues to hold the shows and no promoters to book them.
